Carriage House Plans

Carriage houses, more commonly known as coach houses, were built as outbuildings. They were used to store horse-drawn carriages and supplies.

Carriage houses had living quarters on the upper floor for the staff who worked on the carriages. They consisted of 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom and a living room.

In the last 40 years, the plans for carriage houses have become more similar in layout to those of garage houses. They are usually designed as a private garage with a living area on the upper floor.

Today they are often used as guesthouses, stores, offices, workshops, studios, rental properties and vacation homes. Carriage house plans are in the form of a garage with sheltered parking on the main floor. The upper floor provides small, comfortable living areas.
